What to pair pork roast with?
Pork roast pairs well with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy (homemade is best). You can also serve your pork roast with roasted carrots, fried potatoes, Brussels sprouts or sweet potato mash. Think about roasted asparagus, roasted parsnips or turnips.
Want to try something new? Serve pork roast with applesauce on the side (it’s delicious). You can also try adding prunes or pineapple to your pork roast (not at the same time of course)

How do I know pork roast is fully cooked?
To know if your pork roast is fully cooked, nothing beats a meat thermometer: the temperature should be 160°F (70°C). If you decide to cook your pork roast in an oven stop cooking a couple of °F before reaching that limit as temperature continues to climb even after getting the meat out of the oven.

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C)

Cooking pork roast in a slow cooker
If you don’t have access to an oven, a slow-cooker is a great alternative.
1. Prepare the pork roast : use a pan and pan-sear it on all sides until the meat is browned.
2. Transfer the pork roast in the slow cooker. Add at least a little water at the bottom of the slow cooker (better yet : add sauce: I love a mix of chicken broth, a bit of soy sauce, honey, garlic and mustard). Cook the pork roast on low heat for 8-10 hours, or on high heat for 4-6 hours, until the meat is tender and fully cooked.

Cooking pork roast in a cast-iron casserole. Do you own a cast-iron casserole? If not, you should (Le Creuset is expensive though). It makes the best recipes. Here’s mine for pork roast
1. Add garlic cloves to the pork roast : using a paring knife, cut a few crosses on the roast and insert garlic cloves.
2. Brown the meat in an oiled pan until all sides are colored: this should take 7 minutes per side.
3. Add oil in your cast-iron casserole (NO LID) and cook for 1 hour for a 1 kg-roast at 400°F (200°C). Turn and wet the meat regularly (with cooking juices/water). Just use our calculator!

Cooking pork roast in a pressure cooker
Cooking pork roast in a pressure cooker. Using an Instant Pot or any other pressure cooker is a quick and easy way to cook pork roast.
1. Add a bit of oil at the bottom of your pressure cooker (lid off) and brown your pork roast on all sides.
2. Season and cover with water. Close your pressure cooker and cook on high pressure for about 20-25 minutes per pound, depending on the size of your roast.
