How do I cook French fries?

What to pair fries with?
Fries can be enjoyed on their own as a snack or as a side dish with burgers, roast beef, ham, chicken breasts or pork cutlets. They can also be paired with a variety of dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or aioli, for an extra burst of flavor. So, fire up the stove and start frying!

Preparing French fries

Here are simple steps to prepare fresh fries
Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into thin, even slices.
Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl of cold water for about 10 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries. Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels.
You can also buy frozen French fries. Their cooking time will depend on their size.

Air fryer French fries

Using an air fryer is a great alternative to frying the French fries in oil. To do so:
1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (180°C)
2. Add fries in the air fryer basket, making sure they are all on the same level (so yes, you won’t cook many at the same time). Cook for 13 minutes, until crispy and golden brown.
You can keep your air fried French fries warm in an oven set at 200°F (while you’re air frying the rest of your batch).

Cook crunchy French fries in oven

Cooking crunchy French fries in an oven. Here’s an alternative to frying your fries in a lot of fat: cook them in an oven, but make them extra crunchy!
1. Preheat the oven at 400°F (200°C). Prepare the fries as explained before.
2. Drizzle olive oil, salt and pepper to your fries and spread them out on one or 2 baking sheets.
3. Bake for 30 minutes. Flip them around a bit to prevent them from sticking to one another.
4. Then turn the oven to 450°F (230°C) and continue to cook for an extra 20 minutes. That will make the fries extra crispy!

In the UK, French fries are often called chips. You can prepare fish and chips!
